$$$ of Work-shops
Hello to everyone. I would like to take a moment to address the issue of workshops and cost, if I may, from my view.
First, I have been in the world of bellydance since the sixties. I have been producing workshops, show, haflis and gatherings since the early nineties. First in Virginia Beach for the short time I lived there.
My first major one here in Boston was with our very own icon George Abdo out of retirement party in 1993, after years of telling him how popular his music was (and finally convinced him it was time), so all of you could have the chance to meet and greet him in person (we have video), take pictures and get his autograph. Many of you performed to his music (my apologies for those who didn’t).
I feel my prices have been cost efficient over the years. I decided to bring a variety of some of the popular instructors to Boston, to help put us on the map so the rest of the world would know we are here --- and for you to be exposed to some of the top professionals in our field. In the last few years we have brought in Morocco, Dalia Carella, Suhaila Salimpour, Jehan Kamal, Onca, Yasmina Ramsey and her drummer Sulieman, Amar Gamal, Kaeshe & BellyQueen. We have had the Bellydance Superstars workshops and shows with their documentary film “American Bellydancer” and Rachel Brice, Bozenka, Sonia & Issam, Kami Liddle, Jillina and Petite Jamilla. Some of them more than once. And sponsoring many of our own local and talented instructors and performers at our events.
The bottom line here is -- none of this is free--the halls, the planes, trains, buses, advertising, food, and gas!! The instructors set their prices. I have to trust my instincts that there will be an interest in who I present to you.
Will I make $$$? Do I make $$$ you ask?? Not really. I haven’t flown off to exotic places or bought that pink Cadillac convertible!!
Why do I do what I do you ask??? For the dance and the dancer--from all walks of life--to help keep The Art, The Joy, and The Magic of bellydance alive and well--and zills!!--to share my love of celebrating you in bellydance.
Thank you for all your support. Please e-mail me directly with any comments you may have.
Thanx,
Za-Beth
